Thunderwake is an immense ancient sky-pyramid that now lies partly buried within the Swamps of Thunder. Surviving mechanisms and a magical viewing device show that the structure once flew across the landscape. Its builders possessed advanced magical engineering, alchemy, preservation techniques, planar or extradimensional ritual systems, and machinery capable of producing the recurring thunder for which the ruin is named.

The surviving inscriptions, religious spaces, military relics, and guardian traditions connect Thunderwake strongly to ancient Huraz, particularly its Liyonir and Tavashi traditions. The site also became the final resting place or sanctuary associated with Azukhan and his weapon Razekah. How Thunderwake reached the Drakefire Peninsula, when it fell from the sky, and whether its crash was connected to Azukhan’s final conflict remain unresolved.

Lower Levels

The lower decks contain dormitories, workshops, alchemical facilities, mummification instructions, reliquaries, ritual circles, sealed safes, and machinery linked to the pyramid’s thunder. A Tavashi spirit named Shula remained within the lower levels and helped the Drakefire Phalanx bypass one of the structure’s barriers during its 2026 expedition.

A magical viewing device on the third floor allowed observers to see the surrounding landscape from above and to reverse the image through time. The Phalanx witnessed Thunderwake shortly after its crash, then flying across earlier landscapes, and finally passing above a vast city of unfamiliar architecture before the device ceased functioning.

The Three Censers

Three ritual vessels were required to reach Thunderwake’s concealed upper sanctuary: the Censer of Petition, the Censer of Offering, and the Censer of Consecration. Each was associated with a distinct color of ritual powder and with feline imagery. When placed upon matching altars on the fifth floor, their smoke transported the participants into a hidden flooded sanctuary beneath an impossible star-filled sky.

There the Phalanx encountered Muqaddasat al-Qurbān, the final priestess maintaining the vigil around Razekah. She initially believed the party’s arrival fulfilled an ancient covenant, but the presence of the Eye of Visthuun changed her interpretation. Muqaddasat claimed that Visthuun had been an ancient enemy of Azukhan and that carrying the Eye into the sanctuary had allowed the entity to perceive Razekah.

Muqaddasat ultimately invoked Jazriq, Lord of the Final Gate, the Huraz name for Jhadric, and transformed into a celestial executioner in an attempt to prevent that perceived threat. The Phalanx defeated her, ending the vigil and allowing Assad of the Ironmane to recover Razekah.
