Azukhan is a legendary Liyonir warrior associated with the ancient history of Huraz and the weapon Razekah, the Name-Eating Blade. The surviving tradition preserved by the family of Assad of the Ironmane describes him as a unifying leader who confronted a force capable of attacking identity, memory, and reason.
Stories of the final conflict say that Azukhan gave himself through Razekah in order to strike down that enemy. The details are fragmentary, but traditions preserved within Thunderwake identify Visthuun as one of Azukhan’s ancient enemies and claim that the entity was once “broken upon Azukhan’s wrath.” The same account suggests that the struggle wounded the world in some fashion that has not yet been explained.
Razekah remained connected to Azukhan after his death. When Assad recovered the weapon from Thunderwake in 2026, he later experienced an encounter with Azukhan beneath impossible stars. The experience behaved as more than an ordinary dream: Azukhan instructed Assad in the use of the blade, struck him across the face to force him awake, and the resulting wound remained when Assad returned to consciousness.
Azukhan refused to treat possession of Razekah as proof of worthiness. He warned Assad that inheritance and fear could not make a people loyal, and that the blade would test its bearer rather than simply certify him. Before ending the encounter, Azukhan also became aware of something watching from beyond the dream and warned that an enemy he had once struck down might not have been completely defeated.
