The Eye of Visthuun is a scorched gemstone artifact directly connected to Visthuun, an extremely powerful aberration once worshipped as a god by a civilization around the Gulf of Keravnos. The Memosphere preserved a memory in which a red dragon emerged from the destruction of that civilization carrying the Eye away.
By the modern era the artifact had entered the hoard of the ancient red dragon Zar’Malek in Khaz’Vel’Tor. Dizra had already begun experiencing psionic changes before recovering it, and the Memosphere’s memories suggested that the Eye might be connected to those changes. The Drakefire Phalanx therefore traveled to Khaz’Vel’Tor specifically to steal the artifact rather than confront Zar’Malek directly.
Dizra located the Eye through a distinctive mental resonance while infiltrating the dragon’s hoard with Kada and Quill. Taking it caused the intrusive activity in his mind to become unusually quiet. During the party’s escape, Zar’Malek demonstrated a psychic connection to the Eye that allowed him to sense its presence. Dizra responded to an unidentified instruction to “sever the connection” and successfully broke that link, leaving the dragon temporarily unable to track the artifact.
Tressedekt later concluded that the Eye had chosen Dizra rather than simply being carried by him. The artifact strengthened alongside its bearer and expanded Dizra’s psionic abilities, but its deeper purpose remained unclear.
The most alarming evidence came during the expedition to Thunderwake. A supernatural storm reacted to the Eye as though the artifact were a beacon, and a voice repeated the word “Returned.” Thunderwake’s guardian, Muqaddasat al-Qurbān, recognized Visthuun immediately through the Eye and claimed that the entity had once been an enemy of Azukhan. She believed bringing the Eye into the sanctuary allowed Visthuun to perceive Razekah after an extremely long period in which the weapon had remained hidden from it.
The Eye remains attuned to Dizra. Its exact nature—whether a fragment of Visthuun, a viewing instrument, a focus for the entity’s power, or something more complicated—remains unknown.
