Sashara is a powerful servant of Maritana associated with the protection of marine life and the containment of threats capable of destabilizing entire seas. She has sometimes been called the Tide-Warden in traditions that remember her involvement with Sekorath.
Sashara appeared to the Mistborn in 8723 SE while they were sailing near Inis Cailean. The company encountered what appeared to be an uncharted island and discovered that it was the back of an immense ancient shelled sea-beast. Sashara met them there in the appearance of an older elven woman and initially gave the shortened name Sasha.
She explained that Sekorath was not a true god, despite the devotion of some Sahuagin cults. According to Sashara, forty relics connected to the ancient predator had once been watched by the Skyre Folk but were scattered during later conflicts. Their recovery by Sekorath’s servants created a serious risk that the old power could return to the seas.
Sashara did not intervene directly to seize the relics herself. When pressed about her nature and the limits of her involvement, she referred only to rules that prevented her from answering some questions. The source of those restrictions remains unknown: they may have arisen from divine law, obligations accepted in Maritana’s service, or some narrower compact connected to Sekorath. She later advised the Mistborn when they were trying to locate the submerged temple where the Sahuagin had gathered most of the Teeth of Sekorath, although the temple itself was hidden from her sight.
Her association with Maritana should not be understood as a claim that all predation in the sea is unnatural. Maritana encompasses living marine ecologies in their entirety. Sashara’s opposition to Sekorath concerned a predatory power capable of subordinating those systems to its own return rather than the ordinary relationship between hunter and prey.
