Lurae is a powerful unicorn and servant of Amundala associated with the Pool of Eternal Spring in the interior of Inis Faerna. She embodies preservation through living harmony: growth and transformation are not rejected, but change should remain connected to identity rather than becoming domination or destruction for its own sake.
In 8723 SE, followers of Malvar, a predatory lycanthropic servant of Phaethos, attacked the region surrounding the Pool. Their presence was accompanied by unnatural thunder, red lightning, dead wildlife, violent shapeshifters, and other signs of a transformation being forced upon the land. When the Mistborn reached the Pool, red lightning struck Lurae and began changing her into a dark, predatory form.
The company defeated the attackers and prevented the transformation from becoming permanent. Mist was killed during the battle. His companions carried his body to Cain Tiarnach, where an attempt to restore him to life failed.
Lurae’s relationship to Amundala makes the incident at the Pool an unusually direct expression of the philosophical tension between Amundala and Phaethos. It should not be reduced to a simple struggle between good stasis and evil change. Lurae is a living being capable of growth and alteration; what threatened her was a transformation imposed through predation and loss of self.
